008 - Hello Joanne

Hello Joanne

I have been spent a lot of time thinking about all of the fun we have had together before (BK) kids and after. I am so glad that we got connected when you and Mikey moved back to Georgetown after University. Here are some of the things that have been running through my head: (MAY NEED EDITING JOANNE….. “book editor”)

We have been friends for a very long time; we love you very much and have been thinking about you a lot. We both feel very lucky to have a friend like you. Joanne you always make me laugh, I especially love your giggle, and you have a very great sense of humor. Keep up your feisty spirit. Remember we promised my Mom a trip to Stratford to see a play.

You have an amazing family and group of friends that love you so very much.
I will be by to have a snack with you.

Lots of Love,

Sharon,Curtis, Cody and Brett

007 - Joanne & Mike

Just by looking at this blog, it is obvious that you are both loved by so many; you have touched so many people. You both are blessed to have so many truly, close friends who love and support you. It has been my experience throughout the years, that whenever we are experiencing difficulties in our lives, you two are who we turn to. Mike, my cousin, you are the logical, matter of facts, you don’t hold back, often challenging, yet respectful, and always with humour. Joanne, you are what they call the “soft shoulder to cry on.” You listen intently, taking everything in, always so compassionate and understanding, but also feisty!
You both have done so much for all of your friends & family, and now it is our turn to be there for the two of you.

From the day I met Joanne when Mike brought her to Grandma’s, I thought she was great, we really hit it off. I remember in Gr.12, I think it was, that Mike broke up with Joanne and I was so mad at him, called him lots of names, told him he was stupid, she was the best thing that ever happened to him. They didn’t stay apart for long, and they have been together ever since, celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary this July. Your relationship is admired by many of us; you have given your children, family & friends something to strive for in their relationships. You have shown us what true love really is.

Joanne you really are a hero and an inspiration to us all, watching you fight this disease for the past 7 years, your courage and strength are incredible, you also have a lot of stubbornness in you too! That doesn’t hurt either, ha! ha! I’m glad that I have been around for the good times and the bad; our friendship has reached a whole new level. No matter what we always have a laugh during it all.
I know I am your “comic relief” with all my clutsy antics!! Whether you hit me in the head with your knee, when I’m helping you into bed, or tripping over your walker, or having the ironing board hit me in the head when you asked me to take it out of the closet. Or when you had that terrible diarrehea & I thought I had held it together, only to learn that you could hear me gagging in the basement all the way upstairs! ( It’s always been something hasn’t it? It is a wonder I’m not in a body cast isn’t it! Ha! Ha!

Anyways, the bottom line is, being your friend is the best thing in this world. Looking after you throughout this year, especially this summer has been easy in a way, because I know you would have done the same for me, and that is what friends are for. See you soon.

I love ya, girl, be strong, you too, Mike!! ((

Your cousin,

Martha Quinn

006 - Visiting Joanne

We haven't yet worked out the logistics of posting a schedule here.
Please go to Joanne's hospital room, quietly indicate your presence
and then go back and wait for someone to come and call you.
(in the lounge or patio that is just past the nurse's station)
Thanks for your cooperation,
Mike

Why I Love Joanne #374
One day, when Mike was around 16-17, I turned to Bev and observed in my inimitably tactful manner, "Holy crap, that girl follows Mike around like a little puppy dog." Apparently Joanne overheard this remark or had it reported to her ???. To my knowledge she has never held it against me. She has also never forgotten it either and has reminded me from time to time in her own inimitably tactful manner. One day a few years ago she was talking about a class project or event she had arranged. I complimented her saying something like, "That is a wonderful idea and will be a great lesson for the children. Good for you." She looked at me with a very thin smile and said "Not bad for a little puppy dog, eh Poppa." ... Well shut my mouth with a shovel!

Hi,

This is Marcy, a cousin of Joanne's from Elmira. I just wanted to submit this photo of Jo dancing at her 40th Birthday party. That was a great evening and I am glad we could share in her joy.

Take Care,
Marcy
